Hey, cool site!
Is there anyone here that lives and works outside of Jamaica? Have you experienced any discrimination on the job?

I found this on another site, and even though it's not something that I have experienced, I have a bredrin working on FL that could have written this statement:

"Iâ€™m an alien â€“ not from outer space â€“ but from a different country and even though Iâ€™ve been here for over 5 years, Iâ€™m still considered a resident alien. In my culture people tell it like it is but youâ€™re a little more subtle here. At work I find people just donâ€™t come right out say what they think; they dance around a bit and itâ€™s very frustrating for someone like me who just blurts out an answer without thinking of 100 different ways to say it and the consequences of each one. Like yesterday, my boss asked me how a project was coming and all I said was, â€œIâ€™m working as fast as I can.â€ Next thing you know Iâ€™m being called insubordinate. When someone asks me how somethingâ€™s coming Iâ€™m assuming they want to know how soon it will be completed. I couldnâ€™t give a hard and fast time so I told him I was working as fast as I could. I donâ€™t mean to be rude but I just donâ€™t get it. How do I figure this out before I make a real ass of myself?"

Although this doesn't speak to the sort of harshness he has experienced in the workplace by way of discrimination - what do you all think? How do other J'cans deal with this issue?

i lived and worked in canada for four years. never experienced any discrimination as far as i can tell .. in fact, being from j'ca may have helped me in a lot of ways Rolling Eyes

I have worked overseas (NY) for almost 3 years and have never experienced any discrimination. Same for me Sandor ... being Jamaican and not hiding it has it's benefits Very Happy
